The show business reporters association (Acroarte) has announced the new date for the Soberano ceremony, the most important local show business awards, for two days after the end of the National Book Fair on the grounds of the Plaza de la Cultura in Santo Domingo.
The event has traditionally taken place at the National Theater in March, prior to the book fair. But this year, the major renovation of the Santo Domingo National Theater has led to the show business awards being rescheduled to after the book fair.
Minister of Culture Jose Antonio Rodriguez has suggested holding the event at the Teatro Regional Cibao in Santiago, taking into account the possible extension of the renovation works. However, Acroarte says that there is no time and that the conditions are not right for hosting the event in Santiago, and has chosen to postpone the ceremony until after the book fair. The announcement was made by Acroarte president Jorge Ramos in response to the proposal to host the event in Santiago. He said that holding the event in Santiago would involve entirely different logistics, for which there is no time.
