Top Banco Peravia executive arrested

The top executive of the collapsed Peravia Bank, Jose Luis Santoro, has been arrested in Venezuela and is awaiting an extradition request from the National District Public Prosecution Service.

According to lawyer Cesar Amadeo Peralta, who represents several Venezuelan businessmen who have writs against Santoro and the other bank executives, he was arrested in his home in Maracaibo, following instructions to raid the home by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Santoro is accused of bank fraud, illicit enrichment, deception, abuse of trust and money laundering.

Peralta said that he is confident that Santoro will be extradited to the Dominican Republic where pre-trial terms will be imposed and he will be detained with the rest of the bank executives.
