Alfonso, Cabrera poll: Medina 51.2%, Abinader 42.6%

The most recent Alfonso, Cabrera & Asociados poll carried out between 25 and 28 February 2016 shows that the downward trend in voter popularity for President Danilo Medina’s re-election bid is continuing. While Medina had a 90.4% popularity rating in March 2013, this has gradually declined to 51.2% as of February 2016. Luis Abinader started with 4.3% in March 2013 and has steadily increased in popularity to 42.8%. The polling company says that during the March 2013-February 2016 period, Medina lost 39 points, while Abinader has gained 38.

While the pace of growth and decline of both candidates has significantly declined in 2016, the polling company expects the trend to continue and from here to May 2016 Medina to continue losing points to the point both candidates will be tied at 47%, making a second round of vote necessary in June 2016.
