Rafael Bello Andino resigns post

Rafael Bello Andino, one of the ?eternal? figures of the Reformist Social Christian Party (PRSC), has resigned from his post as president of the party?s Executive Commission that governed the Dominican Republic for 22 years under the late Joaquin Balaguer, and was responsible for getting Leonel Fernandez elected in 1996 after an historic ?Patriotic Pact? that kept PRD candidate Jose Francisco Pena Gomez out of the presidency. Ramon Rogelio Genao, the party?s organizational secretary, said that Bello Andino?s resignation letter held one only line and no explanation for his decision. Bello Andino had been President Balaguer?s personal secretary for over 40 years and assumed the role of party organizer after Balaguer died in 2002. Under Bello Andino the PRSC party went from being one of the prime players in Dominican politics to a situation in which it barely amassed enough votes to maintain its third-place ranking in last 16 May?s Presidential election.
