The French Embassy has issued a press release explaining that any help or protection they provide for Christophe Naudin, who is accused of planning the escape of the two French pilots convicted of drug dealing in the country, is part of the guarantee of rights that the Embassy offers to all French citizens. The Embassy clarifies that this assistance does not include legal aid. According to French government policy, its country’s embassies must ensure that the rights of their citizens under arrest are respected and ensure that their living conditions are suitable. The embassy will follow the Vienna Convention and respect Dominican sovereignty.
The communication was issued after Naudin was sent to three months in pretrial custody following his extradition to the Dominican Republic from Egypt.
