A court authorized a telephone tap on the telephone belonging to retired National Police Colonel, Rafael Herrera Pena, who is the head of security for Blas Peralta, accused of killing the former rector of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), Mateo Aquino Febrillet following an argument between politicians on Friday, 11 March 2016. The tap allegedly reveals how the men tried to get rid of the incriminating evidence in the case.
During the conversation from the Colonel’s phone, Peralta can be heard asking for help to “sort everything out,” and also shows how the men tried to agree to get rid of the evidence of the crime Peralta had committed, such as fabricating an alibi to show he was not in the area when the shooting happened. One other unnamed person can also heard speaking during the conversation.
The conversation took place at 6:32pm Friday 11 March, 2016 and lasted three minutes and 28 seconds. The two men are heard discussing how the gun and the cell phones should be thrown into the ocean.
