Air Mexico arrives in DR

Mexico’s largest airline, Aeromexico began direct flights to Santo Domingo on 16 March 2016. The airline is starting with a frequency of four times a week from Santo Domingo to Mexico City. Aeromexico’s senior vice president for global sales, Jorge Goytortua said that the increase in commercial interaction between the Dominican Republic and Mexico over the past few years was behind the expansion of the airline’s international routes to Santo Domingo. In the past, passengers had to fly to Panama or to Miami to connect to Mexico. The direct flight reduces travel time by at least six hours.

Pointing out that the DR is the most visited country in the Caribbean, Goytortua says the Aeromexico route will now provide even more connectivity. Aeromexico flies to 46 cities in Mexico, 16 in the United States, three in Canada and two in Asia.

Monika Infante, director general of Aerodom, which manages the Santo Domingo Las Americas International Airport said that the flight was secured thanks to ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Tourism, the private business sector, and the Dominican-Mexican Chamber of Commerce with the strong support of Aeromexico and Aerodom to connect the two cities.
