The general supervisor for Migration at the Punta Cana International Airport, Yacquelin de Jesus Perez Hungria, and technician Juan Lorenzo Montolio Fernandez were fired from their posts after a Department of Migration investigation showed they had assisted the illegal departure to the US of four Cuban nationals. According to a report in El Caribe newspaper, the board carrying out the investigations also recommended that the Department of Migration remove police officials from its service, including one captain, and designate disciplinary penalties for other officers of the Cuerpo Especializado en Seguridad Aeropuertuaria for negligence. The enquiry also recommended the cancellation of Ramon Tomas Inirio and Marcos Raul Verges, of Swissport airport services. The investigational section of the Department of Migration also pressed charges against Servair flight coordinators Jose Urbaez and Jose Herrera for their participation in the trafficking of undocumented Cubans. Migration requested their dismissal from the company.
