Speaking in Santo Domingo yesterday, Wednesday 6 April 2016, Minister of Energy and Mines Antonio Isa Conde said that the government would deal with the electricity distributors (the EGEs) according to what is defined by the Electricity Pact currently under discussion. Isa Conde was responding to suggestions from PRM presidential candidate Luis Abinader, who proposes merging the three electricity distributors into one single entity. The minister mentioned that several options for the electricity distributors are being considered and he pointed out that each distributor manages a different region, each of which has its own characteristics.
Isa Conde said that the distributors would fall under the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
Interviewed by Ramon Nunez Ramirez and Jacqueline Morel on the Telematutino 11 program on Channel 11, the minister stated that the Dominican Republic would soon have a real revolution in the area hydrocarbons, in terms of their exploration and production based on transparent regulations and tenders. He said that now, as never before, the government has compiled information that is valuable and plentiful, “in order to do what has never been done” in the area of extraction and the sustainable use of natural resources.
