Reading the Greenberg-Diario Libre poll

The 29 March-1 April Greenberg-Diario Libre poll showed President Medina in the lead with 59% compared to 32% for the main opposition candidate, Luis Abinader. An analysis of the results published today, Tuesday 12 April 2016, points out that the candidate should focus on reaching out to the 49% who believe that the country is headed in the wrong direction, compared to 42% who are satisfied with the Medina government. The poll analysis states that Abinader should not spend time on focusing on the Joao Santana corruption scandal. 57% of those polled dismissed accusations that Medina was linked to the corruption scandal that forced Santana to return to Brazil to face charges. However, 54% said that it made them see Medina less favorably.

The respondents, nevertheless, observed that Medina has been in power for too long and wanted change. The analysts say that Abinader has to convince voters he has the necessary experience to be President. 48% of voters say he does not have enough experience and 44% says he does.

Greenberg Quinland Rosner Research vice president Kristi Lowe said that the poll shows that most Dominicans have already made their minds up, but about 25% were still undecided. She highlighted that while “the door is not closed, time is running out.”
