Kidnapping gone wrong

Police reported that 23-year-old engineer Edwin Canaan died of a knife wound as he resisted a kidnapping attempt by three of his employees and one Colombian national. The police arrested three men, including the Colombian, on the charge of murder. The men in custody are Hendry Manuel Reyes Corporan, 18, Juan Luis Wallace Sanchez, 18, and the 30-year-old Colombian, Jail Sepulveda Prado. As reported in the Listin Diario, police spokesman General Ramon Francisco Rodriguez Sanchez said that Sepulveda Prado was injured as he resisted arrest and was interned at the Dario Contreras Hospital. Law enforcement agents are still seeking Carlos Leandro Rosario, who was reportedly the author of the crime. Andrea Frias, the wife of Rosario, confirmed the kidnapping had been planned in her home. The body of Canaan was found on 15 July in an apartment on the ninth floor of a building under construction at Poncio Sabater No. 1 of Ensanche Paraiso. The deceased?s hands and feet were bound and there was tape over his mouth. Police say the kidnappers would have asked for a ransom of US$500,000.
