Transport cartels favor changes in work hours

Spokespersons for transport cartels are in favor of changing school and working hours to reduce traffic jams in Greater Santo Domingo and Santiago.

According to Juan Marte of the CNTT, Alfredo Pulinario Linares of Mochotran, and Juan Santana Soriano of Unatrafin, a change in school hours and working hours would benefit both the people involved as well as the transportation industry by saving fuel and time and improving productivity.

The nation’s transportation leaders are also in favor of banning heavy vehicles from using major roadways during working hours, especially peak traffic hours. Public Administration Minister Ramon Ventura Camejo told El National newspaper that the proposal for employees to start work at seven in the morning is currently on the desk of the Minister of the Presidency, Gustavo Montalvo.

Transport leaders such as Jacobo Ramos and Rafael (Pepe) Abreu back the measure proposed by Public Administration Minister Ventura Camejo who is suggesting that government employees begin work at 9am and leave at four in the afternoon while schools and universities should have a different schedule. Pulinario Linares of Mochotran was not in complete agreement with the minister’s proposal saying that, “it would not relieve traffic congestion, because the solution is for the authorities to apply the laws and remove cars that are basically junk from circulation.”
