A 41-year old woman who had just graduated in law after 10 years of studies, was making her way home from the graduation ceremony with her daughter yesterday, Monday 25 April 2016, when a bus crashed into her car. She was taken to the Dario Contreras Trauma Hospital on Las Americas Expressway where she died of her injuries. Her 14-year old daughter suffered minor injuries. Nine other people were injured. Restituyo leaves two other children aged 18 and 16 who lived with her mother in Vista Alegre in Valiente, Santo Domingo East.
She was the only victim in the crash involving the bus, which then hit a palm tree and plunged into the sea. Her graduation godfather, Juan Alberto Francisco said he learned of the accident when a witness to the crash called him on her cell phone. According to Francisco, the caller said the accident had occurred because of reckless driving by the bus driver who hit her vehicle.
The bus passengers were able to get out before the bus fell into the sea. With the exception of Restituyo and a Haitian woman named as Mary Sanchi, all the others were treated and released from the Dario Contreras Hospital. Sanchi has abdominal trauma and remains in the hospital.
