The daughter of former President Leonel Fernandez visited the Central Electoral Board (JCE) yesterday, Monday 25 April 2016, to get her new ID. Nicole Fernandez has been in the media spotlight recently, after one of the candidates for Santo Domingo mayor Karim Abu Naba’a for the Partido Democrata Institucional (PDI) registered her as his running mate. The JCE rejected the registration as it had been made with an invalid ID. Nicole Fernandez then said she did not authorize her former boyfriend to register her.
Karim Abu Naba’a, who accompanied Fernandez when she went to get her new ID, told the press that she would be voting for him.
Although the electoral roll is officially closed, when journalists asked her for whom she would vote, she said she would vote for whomever her dad told her to.
Abu Naba’a also made headlines last year when he was issued an exit ban after being accused of attempted murder.
