Minister of Public Works Gonzalo Castillo has announced an increase in nationwide highway patrols for the International Workers’ Day long weekend. The country is expected to see an increase in domestic travel starting today, Friday, 29 April through Monday, 2 May 2016. The Ministry of Public Works has introduced what have proved to be highly helpful patrols on highways nationwide. Castillo announced that 108 new units would be added to the current 147 units for a total of 255 patrols on the country’s main highways. Roadside protection and assistance program spokesman Colonel Jacobo Mateo Moquete said that response time for callers to the help center, Tel. 829 688-1000 would be maintained at between 5-8 minutes with the addition of the new units in response to the expected increase in travelers. The program has been in service since December 2012 and is available 24 hours a day. The services offered include: Tire change assistance, mechanical failure assistance, and ambulance and tow-truck services.
