According to the Emergency Operations Center at least 5,455 people have been displaced from their homes, 21 communities are cut off and five bridges under water or destroyed due to the rains the last week.
In addition 18 provinces and the National District are under alert, 11 of them on a yellow alert and seven plus the National District on green.
The provinces on yellow alert are: La Vega, Monsenor Nouel (Bonao), Monte Plata, Hato Mayor, La Romana, La Altagracia (Higuey), El Seibo, San Cristobal, specially Villa Altagracia; San Pedro de Macoris, Sanchez Ramirez (Cotui) and San Juan de La Maguana.
Heavy rains caused a mudslide at kilometer 29 on the northeastern highway and in Sanchez Ramirez (Cotui) a tree fell on top of a car injuring the driver, 48-year old Ismael Ortega, who is now in hospital.
High winds on Saturday afternoon, 30 April 2016 took roofs off homes in Bija in Villa la Mata, in Sanchez Ramirez province.
A total of 1,081 homes have been affected, some completely destroyed.
