On Sunday, 1 May 2016 the Puerto Rican authorities intercepted a boat around 16 nautical miles off the coast of the island with 30 Dominicans on board who were trying to get to the island illegally.
The 24 men and six women on board were handed over to the United States Coast Guard for deportation.
