Problems with election testing

Poor telecom signals affected the election result data transfer trial run held yesterday, Monday, 2 May 2016. Diario Libre reported that in some cases the Central Electoral Board (JCE) appeared to have problems in transmitting the data to the central location.

As reported, more than 10% of the election stations were unable to transfer the data. In Altamira and Gaspar Hernandez, for instance, no signal was available for the transfer.

JCE national information director Franklin Frias did not have an answer when reporters asked what would happen on election day if there was no signal. He just said that the transmission would take place more slowly.

JCE president Roberto Rosario Marquez said that the data transmission problem was caused by the recent rains and said he was confident there would be no problems on the day of the election. He said he would be meeting with telecommunications providers Orange and Claro to discuss the matter.
