PRD Deputy for Barahona Fabio Vargas, who is seeking to be re-elected on 15 May 2016, was uninjured after being shot at by persons unknown in the city’s Baitoita neighborhood, but his vehicle received several bullet holes.
Vargas was attacked while visiting a home in the area and his vehicle was riddled with bullet holes in the front window next to the driver and in the rear.
The attack took place at around 8pm on Monday, 2 May 2016 and Vargas has described it as an attempt on his life. He said he has called President Danilo Medina asking for an immediate investigation saying that it occurred because he is almost certain to win the elections and someone wanted to eliminate him.
