Fighting Child Pornography

Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito says that major initiatives are underway in the country to prevent the Dominican Republic from being used as a sex tourism destination. He said that these initiatives seek to prevent vulnerable citizens from becoming victims of sex crimes, especially in tourism destinations. He was speaking during the opening of the First International Congress to Fight Online Child Pornography at the Attorney General Office auditorium yesterday, Thursday 5 May 2016. Dominguez said the country now has the software and equipment needed for fighting this crime. He said they have focused on the destinations of Puerto Plata and Punta Cana.

Dominguez Brito expressed optimism that the practice has been eradicated in Puerto Plata, and mentioned the case of Las Conejitas, the nightclub that was dismantled in Bavaro (Punta Cana).

He stated that for the first time the Dominican Republic is being recognized as one of the countries fighting people trafficking most effectively, with the largest number of rulings in these cases and the dismantling of trafficking structures.
