Economists Ernesto Selman and Pavel Isa Contreras have backed recent statements by President Danilo Medina in support of reducing tax exemptions and evasion instead of increasing tax rates if re-elected. The President’s comments confirm that the existing tax system is not working well and the taxes are penalizing economic activities in the formal sector, said Selman, who is executive vice president of the Regional Center for Sustainable Economic Strategies (CREES), as reported in Hoy.
