Guillermo Moreno promises to make DR an exporter country

In the final days of his campaign, Guillermo Moreno of Alianza Pais (AlPais) met with the business community in Santiago. He made a presentation to the Santiago Traders and Industrialists Association (ACIS), a leading regional business organization. He called for implementing a development model that will create jobs with decent wages and a defined export vocation. Moreno, who is in third place in the polls, spoke of new initiatives to spur production in industry, tourism and farming. Family businesses and small and medium-sized companies would be the main generators of jobs in the country, he said. In the PLD governments, the public sector has been the main creator of jobs.

Moreno says he will promote a new model for free zones with wider scope of products and better integrated with national production. He said he does not believe in political patronage or handouts but in creating the conditions for every individual to start their own business and to be guaranteed to access to decent jobs. He also spoke in favor of cooperatives and production associations.

He said he would transform the Banco Agricola into a Rural Development Bank with capital to guarantee comprehensive credit for farming.
