DR to host III World Cocoa Conference

The National Cocoa Commission and the Ministry of Agriculture announced yesterday, Wednesday 18 May 2016 that they would be hosting the III World Cocoa Conference in Punta Cana next week. President Danilo Medina and Minister of Agriculture Angel Estevez will attend the opening ceremony at the Barcelo Convention Center on Sunday 22 May 2016.

This is the first time that the world convention is being held in Latin America. The agenda focuses on production, processing, and sales technology as well as the technology involved in cocoa products such as chocolate.

1,700 delegates ranging from cacao producers to industry suppliers and chocolate manufacturers from more than 60 countries around the world have registered for the event, which ends on Wednesday 25 May 2016.

Minister Estevez reported that the country was chosen for the celebration of the conference because of the proven quality of Dominican cacao, one of the best in the world. More than 2.4 million tareas of cacao are cultivated in the Dominican Republic.
