38 Haitian immigrants who were making their way from the border to the city of Santiago on board a public transport bus have been arrested, according to the Army, according to a report in 7 Dias on Friday, 20 May 2016. The Army said the immigrants and the Dominican bus driver have been detained for questioning. The immigrants were said to be in possession of fake Haitian passports. The bus was stopped at the Copey military checkpoint between the provinces of Montecristi and Dajabon. As reported, the bus driver tried to bribe the agents at the checkpoint with RD$10,000. The Haitians were delivered to Migration for deportation to Haiti.
