PLD not commenting on elections yet

After announcing on Sunday, 22 May 2016 that it would hold a press conference yesterday Monday, 23 May to outline its position on the election results, which led to series of disputes and protests by the opposition across the country, the ruling PLD has now said it would wait for the Central Electoral Board (JCE) to complete its count before making any comment.

Reinaldo Pared Perez, the General Secretary of the PLD who was re-elected as senator for the National District, originally announced that the press conference would follow a meeting by the PLD National Electoral and Strategy Committee.

He described the claims being made by the main opposition party, the PRM and another six parties as “exaggerated and intransigent,” as they are asking for a manual recount of the votes and in some cases even demanding completely new elections due to the supposed irregularities.
