The 36-year old Dominican top-ranked tennis player Victor Estrella defeated Ukrainian Illya Marchenko (ranked 71st) 7-5, 6-4, 6-3 yesterday Tuesday, 24 May 2016 to pass to the second round of the Roland Garros French Open. Estrella, ranked 87th by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) will now play against Feliciano Lopez of Spain who is ranked 21st by ATP.
A victory would ensure that he takes the national tennis team to the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, which would be a first for a Dominican tennis player. Feliciano Lopez is ranked 23rd.
Estrella is optimistic because he defeated Lopez in two previous matches in 2014 and 2015.
