Venezuelan hearing will take place in La Romana

The Supreme Court of Justice has turned down a request to move the hearing in the drug smuggling case involving five Venezuelans away from La Romana.

The Venezuelans are accused of bringing 359 kilos of cocaine into the country on a plane from Venezuela.

The Supreme Court, headed by Mariano German Mejia, decided that the request to move the hearing due to a lack of confidence in the courts in La Romana and San Pedro de Macoris had no legal basis and was therefore rejected.

The judge in La Romana now needs to set a date to decide on remand terms for the accused men: Carlos Justiniano, Jorge Henriquez, Gregory Frias, Gerardo Diaz and driver Jean Carlos Diaz.
