As of yesterday, Tuesday 31 May 2016 the bridges connecting Santo Domingo East and West have been under military control, in an attempt to halt protests by disgruntled former candidates for both congressional and municipal posts who did not win the elections.
The Duarte, Mella, Juan Bosch and Sanchez bridges are being patrolled to prevent anyone who wants to protest from entering or leaving.
