400-meter dash runner Luguelin Santos will be the Dominican flag-bearer at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games opening ceremony on 5 August 2016. When informed of the decision, Santos responded by saying it would be an honor and that it was a dream come true. Santos trains in Bradenton, Florida under Jose Ludwig Rubio, who was also his coach when he won a silver medal in the London 2012 Olympics. Around 20 athletes are on the Dominican team to the Rio Olympics (5-21 August 2016).
