According to a press release from the Ministry of Public Health environmental health department, more than 70 improvised refuse dumps have been cleared during a cleanup process that the central government is undertaking in the southwestern city of San Cristobal, as reported in Diario Libre. Environmental Health director general Luis Emilio Feliz Roa said that his department had concentrated on garbage collection and a special mosquito spraying and rat elimination process for the entire city, with a focus on hospital and school areas. The spraying equipment was carried on vehicles from the Ministry of Public Health’s Tropical Disease Control Center and the Ministry of Public Works.
