Mayor-elect Collado signs with Cristo Rey community leaders

Father Rogelio Cruz was back in his old Santo Domingo neighborhood, Cristo Rey yesterday, Thursday 9 June 2016 for the signing of an agreement with the mayor-elect of the National District, David Collado. Collado was elected to replace three-term mayor Roberto Salcedo. The agreement includes renewed initiatives for restoring citizen safety, eliminating open-air garbage dumps, and reopening the local produce market. “It is a historic event for our community that for the first time a candidate visits our humble barrio to reach an agreement to restore the services that have been denied for decades,” the Catholic priest told the press. The agreement was signed by Collado and the Fundacion Padre Rogelio Cruz, the Casa de la Cultura de Cristo Rey, the National Commission for Human Rights (CNDH), Fundacion Tropico, neighborhood associations and worker and educational representatives.

Collado was accompanied by deputy and acting PRSC president Victor Bisono, and winning candidate for deputy Alfredo Pacheco.

The agreement also includes the opening of the Centro Futuro, built by the National District City Government (ADN) with a budget of RD$100 million at the intersection of Ortega y Gasset and Nicolas de Ovando avenues, street lighting, construction and rebuilding of sidewalks, operation of the Puerto de la Isabela sports complex and the construction of sports facilities for young people in Cristo Rey.

The community will also be lobbying the central government for the construction of a pedestrian bridge connecting Ortega y Gasset Avenue with the Paseo de los Reyes Catolicos where a public school is located.
