Mejia to erect his kingdom in San Cristobal

Listin Diario political commentator Orlando Gil speculates that President Hipolito Mejia has chosen his new farm home in San Cristobal as his new base, where he will spend most of his time after leaving the Presidency. Gil recalls that President Mejia had said several times that he would retire to his hometown of Gurabo, in the province of Santiago, after leaving office. Later, he mentioned that he would live in the sprawling mansion-nursery complex he had built in Jarabacoa. But, Gil says, Mejia has heeded his advisers and will instead set up his political office in his new dwelling in San Cristobal, which is close enough to the capital for the press to provide the coverage needed to keep him in the limelight. ?The existence of the PPH [the political faction of the PRD that supports Mejia] is guaranteed, but so is that of the candidate Hipolito Mejia, who with his farewell speech [scheduled for Friday, 12 August] and the measures taken in the final days believes he has assured his return to power,? writes Gil.

He adds, however, ?What he doesn?t know, nor imagines in his delirium, is that the devil never sleeps. They have a bed prepared for him, and it is one with nails, like that of a fakir?.?
