Febrillet’s widow fears Blas Peralta will be released

Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito says he will ask for the maximum 30-year jail sentence for transport kingpin Blas Peralta and others accused in the case of the murder of the former rector of the UASD, Mateo Aquino Febrillet.

However, this is the same Dominguez who prosecuted Felix Bautista, the senator and organizational secretary of the ruling PLD party, for misappropriation of billions during his term at the Supervisory Office of Public Works of the State in a case heard by the Supreme Court of Justice. Dissident Supreme Court judge Miriam German pointed to rather simple errors in the prosecution as the main reason the case against the most corrupt Dominican official never made it to trial.

Now Febrillet’s widow Rita Solis has gone public to express her concern that Blas Peralta may use his influence in the PLD government to get off. Solis has said the family, which is represented by lawyer Jose Parra Baez, will not make a deal with Peralta who is in pre-trial custody for murdering Febrillet.
