Andres Navarro denies immigrants’ human rights violated

Minister of Foreign Relations Andres Navarro has rejected repeated allegations that immigrants’ human rights are being violated in the Dominican Republic, in response to a June 2016 Amnesty International report.

He dismissed the latest report as “just more of the same, when the Dominican Republic has proved in all international forums what it is, what it has done and what it is doing about Haitian immigration.” He said that there is no evidence of human rights violations and that if such cases were to arise there were investigation and response mechanisms. “We Dominicans cannot continue to react when receiving these reports.” He said that the focus should be on protecting everyone in the country, both Dominicans and foreigners.
