The National Executive Committee of the Dominican Teachers’ Association (ADP) is calling on its members to reject the new grade registration system for the next school year, saying that it is too stressful and will require too many extra hours for completion.
ADP president Eduardo Hidalgo is asking Education Minister Carlos Amarante Baret to call an urgent meeting of the teaching technical committee that was formed on 11 February but has still not held its first meeting.
The teachers’ leader said that the new grading system, which used to be known as the school report, is now 77 pages long and teachers had to cover thousands of aspects as part of the evaluation. He also complained that the regional workshops planned for teachers on the system had been scheduled during the school holidays.
