The new director of the Central Cibao Regional Command of the National Police revealed on Wednesday 22 June 2016 that local police have been unable to patrol some densely populated neighborhoods because of the high crime rate.
Nevertheless Brigadier General Jose Acosta Castellanos declared that this situation began to change as soon as he took charge of his new post. He said: “I can assure you that here we have had areas where the police do not dare to enter, such as Cienfuegos, Camboya, La Yaguita del Egido and La Yaguita de Pastor.”
The police official issued the statements during a meeting with local journalists at the headquarters of the provincial Development Association.
He announced that they have stepped up police patrols in those areas as well as others where there are constant reports of robberies and muggings, during the day as well as at night and during the dawn hours. He said the new methodology will soon bear fruit and he called on citizen groups and community organizations to cooperate with the police.
