See some of the best volleyball players in the world in action, including Dominicans Brenda Castillo, the best libero in the world, Bethania de la Cruz and Bayelin Martinez as they compete in the 15th Pan American Volleyball Women’s Cup.
Santo Domingo’s Ricardo Arias Volleyball Pavilion and Club San Carlos will host the best volleyball teams in the Americas from 30 June to 11 July 2016.
This is a North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (Norceca) event.
In addition to the host country of the Dominican Republic, there are 11 teams represented: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, United States and Venezuela and the host, Dominican Republic. Group A teams are Canada, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico and the DR. Group B teams are Argentina, Cuba, Costa Rica, Trinidad & Tobago, Peru and the United States.
The tournament starts on Saturday with games at 2pm at the Volleyball Pavilion (Group A) and Club San Carlos (Group B).
The opening game on 1 July is Canada vs. Colombia (Group A) and Costa Rica vs. Argentina (Group B).
At 4pm, the US will face Peru. At 6pm, Puerto Rico will face Mexico, and at 8pm, the DR will face Venezuela at the Olympic Center pavilion. At 4pm, at Club San Carlos, Cuba will face Trinidad & Tobago.
The inaugural ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, 2 July prior to the Mexico vs. Dominican Republic game set for 8pm.
Tickets are on sale at Uepa Tickets and at Jumbo and El Nacional supermarkets. The admission price at the Oylmpic Pavilion is RD$330. Admission for all the games at Club San Carlos will be RD$130.
The Dominican Republic just returned from the Grand Prix held in Varna, Bulgaria, where the women’s team earned the right to occupy a place in the elite group of world women’s volleyball. The team will now play in the elite Group 1 of the FIVB World Grand Prix for the next season in 2017.
