Labor Department report

Labor Minister Ramon (Monchy) Fadul told the editors of El Caribe that the Dominican Republic does not have pending issues with the International Labor Organization (ILO) regarding treatment of Haitian workers in the Dominican Republic. He clarified this by stating that there are no complaints with concrete evidence that can prejudice the country’s reputation. Fadul continued by showing the editors that last week’s report from the ILO did not contain any condemnation or penalty for any violation of the international norms regarding laborers. According to the Labor Minister, the ILO has limited itself to making observations on the application of several international agreements regarding child labor, discrimination in the workplace, union freedom and forced labor. Finally, Fadul pointed out that the Dominican Republic had fulfilled its treaty obligations regarding the labor force and the DR-CAFTA agreements.
