Arrested former captain of the Army, Quirino Paulino Castillo kept a bank account with over RD$100 million in the governmental Banco de Reservas of Tamayo, in the southwest, according to a report in Listin Diario newspaper. Noemi Taveras, the wife of lieutenant colonel of the Police, Arturo Nin Terrero, commander of the jail of Azua who was arrested as a passenger in a truck with 1,387 kilos of cocaine, works at the bank. Her husband and Paulino Castillo were arrested for complicity in the drug smuggling operation on 18 December along the Duarte highway. Listin Diario says that Taveras herself kept a millionaire account in the same bank where she worked. Taveras says the savings were the result of 22 years she had employed by the bank. She denied that Quirino Paulino had an account in the bank. Furthermore, she denied that either she or her husband personally knew Quirino Paulino. Nin Terrero was sent to the Najayo jail yesterday. Quirino Paulino is kept in the DNCD jail for security reasons.
