Raises to doctors for productivity?

Diario Libre comments today that talks between the Dominican Medical College (CMD) and the government over wage increases collapsed over the issue of productivity. According to the back page editorial of the newspaper, the talks were suspended when the government asked to peg wage increases to productivity and efficiency benchmarks for individual physicians, which would be set for hospitals and clinics. The proposal was for a government and CMD commission to authorize the raises based on productivity. Diario Libre likewise attributes the failure in the talks between the CMD and the government to the criteria maintained by the government that a reduction in inflation, cost of gasoline, and appreciation of the peso have to be factored in as part of the solicited wage increase.
