The Comision de Espectaculos Publicos, the government body that regulates public performances in the DR, issued resolution 06/2005 banning world famous Dominican bachata group Aventura from performing live in the DR for a period of one year. Aventura is accused of “an alarming and shameful attempt to offend the morals and good customs of Dominican society”. During a recent concert in Santiago, group members performed a scene described as “indecent”.
Aventura’s lead singer Anthony apologized for the incident. “We are not going to justify ourselves, because what happened cannot be excused. We are surprised by all this and humbly apologize to Dominican society and to our fans, and only ask for another chance, because everything was the result of momentary euphoria,” he said, as reported in El Caribe. Aventura had been booked for a performance during the Casandra awards ceremony, the local equivalent of the Grammy’s. Acroarte has asked for a review of the decision because the show opens on 21 February and preparations are well under way.
