President Leonel Fernandez met Microsoft’s Bill Gates on Sunday, 13 February at the home of Venezuelan businessman Gustavos Cisneros in Casa de Campo, La Romana. They had lunch together. Fernandez was accompanied by First Lady Margarita Cedeno. Guillermo Cisneros, son of Gustavos Cisneros, was present at the meeting.
President Fernandez arrived around noon in a helicopter. At 4 pm, President Fernandez and the first lady returned to Santo Domingo. Gates had arrived on Friday to Casa de Campo. The Listin Diario reports that Gates ate at El Sombrero and Giacosa restaurants in Altos de Chavon accompanied by his wife Melinda and another couple.
During his first government, President Fernandez traveled to Seattle to meet with Gates, but the meeting never happened.
