Dominican leaders joined New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to ring the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange on occasion of the celebration of Dominican Independence Day on 27 February. Elected officials representing the Dominican community accompanied Mayor Bloomberg on the bell podium to mark the 161st anniversary of the DR independence. Present representing the DR were Cid Wilson, president of the Dominican American National Roundtable; Jose Peralta, New York State Assemblyman; Adriano Espaillat, New York State Assemblyman; Guillermo Linares, NYC Commissioner of Immigration; Fernando Mateo, Hispanics Across America; Jose Fernandez, National Bodeguero Association; Jose Fernandez, Dominican consul in NY; Daisy Dominguez, vice president of Dominicans on Wall Street.
