Concrete-exporting plant for Pedernales

Martin III Ozinga Bros of Ozinga Bros from Chicago met with President Fernandez to propose the installation of a ready mix concrete facility in Pedernales, an area otherwise being slated for major tourism development. Ozinga met with President Fernandez, and as reported in Diario Libre, proposed to build the concrete mixing plant for export purposes. He would like to take advantage of the frontier area law that provides generous tax incentives to companies operating in provinces on the border with Haiti. The Letter of Intent the DR signed with the IMF, nevertheless, establishes the elimination of these privileges.

If the investment materializes, this would be the second foreign cement factory in the area. The first was the Cementos Andinos construction material packaging plant in the area, in violation of several environmental regulations. This plant is said to have affected the development perspectives of Cabo Rojo beach area.
