The District Attorney is investigating the deaths of 21-year old Ricardo Ivan Garcia and 20-year old Pablo Contreras from alcohol intoxication. The two had competed in a tequila drinking contest at the Blanc, Dance and Lounge of Plaza Andalucia on Ave. Abraham Lincoln in Santo Domingo. As reported in the Listin Diario, Garcia died of cardiac arrest after having consumed 51 tequila shots. The deceased were attempting to win the RD$10,000 prize to be awarded to the individual who could consume the most tequila shots without stop during a Mexican Night. Another youth, Edilberto Abreu is in coma at the Centro de Medicina Avanzada Abel Gonzalez and Ricardo Estrella is also hospitalized in the same center.
The discotheque had asked the participants to sign a document releasing them from any responsibility.
