Deputy Ramos to stay in jail

The Chamber of Deputies upheld the opinion of the Supreme Court that Radhames Ramos Garcia (PRD-La Vega) should fulfill his sentence of 18 months in jail for smuggling Chinese across the border with Haiti. Ramos had been sentenced prior to being sworn in, but was able to avoid jail due to the immunity accorded him once he was irregularly-sworn in as deputy, despite previously having been accused of the people smuggling. The deputies had protected Ramos Garcia, on the premise that “what I do for you today, tomorrow you will do for me.”
