The Department for the Prevention of Corruption (Depreco) is studying documents confiscated in a search of the home of deputy minister of Environment, Pedro Escarraman that reveal information on the construction cost of the Jarabacoa mountain home former President Hipolito Mejia built during his administration. At the end of his term, Mejia officially stated that the house had cost RD$6.7 million. Nevertheless, Octavio Lister of Depreco says that the newly found documents indicate that the real construction cost was more than RD$30 million. Depreco has been investigating the distribution of government bought green house installation among officers of the Mejia administration. Former President Mejia has owned up to his share of the greenhouses but says these were purchased with his own money, as reported in the Listin Diario.
Likewise Lister says he is studying the millionaire donations that the former President received to build the Jarabacoa home.
