Mr. President, stay home

The Listin Diario publishes today an editorial requesting that President Leonel Fernandez cancel the 10-day trip to Asia that has been unofficially reported in the press. Initial reports mentioned the President would travel to Singapore, Taiwan and Japan. Later the trip was reduced to a visit to Taiwan and Japan as of 8 April. The Presidency has not officially announced the trip. The newspaper says that the drought, the stagnation of the economy, the job cuts in free zones, and other issues require the President’s attention at home.

Francisco Alvarez Castellanos also writes in Hoy newspaper today asking that the President forget about traveling until the country has recovered at least its economic stability.

The President in March was away for ten days on tour in the United States and Spain.
