The director of Country-Risk for Latin America, a part of the Intelligence Unit of the British newspaper, The Economist, Robert Wood, said that one of the factors that will determine the amount of impact that can happen in the Dominican Republic as a result of the FTA with the United States will depend on the success of the adjustment strategies that are worked out based on the experiences from liberalized commerce that other countries in Latin American have gone through. Wood, who gave his conference at the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (Funglode), pointed out that these experiences show that small and medium business may well receive a larger impact but there are opportunities to consolidate their positions through unification of the sector. Wood also pointed out that textiles and agriculture would be affected. He pointed out that technological transfer could go hand in had with investment.
