Juan Hernandez, director of the Department of Taxes (DGII) announced that government tax collections are up 30.6%. DGII revenues in the first three months of the year increased RD$4.42 billion, from RD$14.44 million to RD$18.87 billion.
He said that tax collections increased RD$879.4 million for 4.8% more than budgeted for the period.
Customs taxes were up RD$3.87 billion, or 57.81% more than during the same period last year.
ITBIS collections increased 44.56% to RD$1.9 billion. The increase exceeded the 33.3% increase that was stipulated in the most recent tax reform. This tax increased 14% over last year’s level.
Income tax was also up 14%, going from RD$5.65 billion in 2004 to RD$6.45 billion for the first three months in 2005.
Property tax increased 79%, going from RD$453 million to RD$811.7 million. Luxury tax on property was up 268% to RD$345.5 million.
Hernandez said that the government is reviewing some 14,000 companies that declared they did not have any employees making over the tax-exempt level authorized by the DGII.
